Mondrian modern kitchen
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
As writers, it is important for our clients to find the perfect balance of words to fully describe their thoughts. They wanted a kitchen that echoed the same notion of balance between beauty and function. They wanted a design that was purposeful with subtle elegance. We worked with them to understand their routines and specific needs creating a plan that would bring ease to prepping, cooking, entertaining and overall use. We introduced modern, clean lines by using flat panel cabinets paired with a bold yet neutral palette. Instead of a flat tile, we found a subway tile with elusive movement that complements the granite countertops and dark cabinetry, bringing order while abstaining from being sterile. With such restraints, the food, décor and accents of hues in dishes are the pops of color and whimsy needed to energize the space. By adding windows and making larger openings between the kitchen and dining area, the room became lighter and more inviting. The renovated area creates a great space that encourages an intimate meal for two or a dinner party of friends and colleagues.
